Jc. Girard et al., INVESTIGATIONS OF THE MORPHOLOGY OF COPPER SURFACES BY SCANNING-TUNNELING-MICROSCOPY, Microscopy microanalysis microstructures, 4(5), 1993, pp. 489-499
The main results of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) studies of the
morphology of copper surfaces are presented. It illustrates the abili
ty of this technique to investigate the relationship between surface m
orphology and the atomic mechanisms which determine it. The first stud
y concerns the equilibrium fluctuations of steps on surfaces vicinal f
rom (100), the second the vacancy and adatom islands generated by low
energy ion bombardment on the (100) face of copper.
