Abstract
This study explores the potential conflict between the spirit and lett er of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the spirit and let ter of most collective bargaining agreements affecting public school t eachers. Collective bargaining for public school teachers provides a u nique forum for investigating some of the possible unanticipated outco mes of ADA implementation. The law, its regulations for implementation , and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Technical Assistan ce Manual on the Employment Provisions (Title I) of the Americans with Disabilities Act are cited and discussed in light of existing collect ive bargaining policies and practices and the logistical parameters li kely to have an impact on the ADA's implementation in the public schoo l setting.
