Two different numerical procedures, an algorithm based on the method o
f simulated annealing as well as a genetic algorithm, are applied for
the full non-linear reconstruction of the exit plane wave function bel
onging to periodic areas of high-resolution electron microscopy images
. Using simulated high-resolution images of the intermetallic alloy Ni
4Mo as a test case, the convergence behaviour and the accuracies of bo
th algorithms are investigated. Based on processed experimental high-r
esolution images of this alloy, a practical example of the reconstruct
ion of the exit plane wave function is given.
