The education systems of many countries are experiencing problems of c
risis proportions today. The main reasons for this state of affairs ar
e not so much the economic difficulties, but the outdated world views
and models on which the education system is based. The present paper d
iscusses the existing education system in terms of Teleonics, which is
a process-based approach derived from general systems thinking. This
approach helps to place the difficulties experienced in education in c
ontext and to formulate a more suitable system for education which wou
ld contribute to the development of both the individual and the societ
y in which the individual find him/herself.
