Abstract
The microstructural change of Ni40Zr60 alloy during mechanical alloyin g of mixtures of the intermetallic compounds NiZr2 and Ni11Zr9 has bee n studied by transmission electron microscopy. A specific ''cauliflowe r'' phase was formed during early stage of mechanical alloying process . It is suggested that the solid state reaction between intermetallic compounds NiZr2 and Ni11Zr9 is not the only origin for the formation o f the ''cauliflower'' phase.
