Cubic zirconium dioxide crystals are grown with the skull melting tech
nique. The effective distribution coefficients for Nd3+, Sm3 + and Er3
+ as dopants are determined experimentally as a function of the crysta
l growth velocity. With the Burton-Prim-Slichter theory, the equilibri
um distribution coefficients can be calculated. The distribution coeff
icients of all other trivalent rare earth ions can be estimated by app
lying the correlation towards the ionic radii.
