Gw. Wang et al., PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF SULFONATE SALT-TYPE CLEAVABLE SURFACTANTS WITH A 1,3-DIOXANE RING, Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 71(7), 1994, pp. 727-730
A series of di anionic cleavable surfactants were prepared by the cond
ensation of aldehydes with 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol, fol
lowed by reaction with 1,3-propanesultone in the presence of sodium hy
dride. Surfactant 5a had a different H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance sp
ectrum in D2O than products 5b-d. This was rationalized by its differe
nt conformation, which originates from the self-coiling of its alkyl c
hain. The critical micelle concentrations, Krafft points and hydrolysi
s properties of these surfactants were determined.
