The speed of rotation can be advantageously measured using the laser D
oppler principle. In the present paper, laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV
) is applied to measure the fluctuations in rotational speed of differ
ent types of electric motors. Within an experimental study, it could b
e shown that a measurement accuracy of the rotational speed of 0.015 %
can be obtained with LDV-technique. Thus, high precise analyses of th
e stability of rotational speed of technical drives can be performed.
Compared to existing measuring methods, the accuracy of the LDV-method
is superior.
