Abstract
Mental rotation capacities in the picture-Plane and in depth were inve stigated in six. seven and ten-year-old. Performance was good in both cases, but six-year-old children made more errors for the depth rotati ons. Cognitive strategies to solve the problem are unclear. It is poss ible that children have not carried out <<mental rotations>> when stim uli were rotated in a tri-dimensional space. In this case, response ti mes were not linearly dependent on the orientation of the stimuli - a function which is classically associated with the mental rotation proc esses.
