Abstract
This paper discusses the procedures developed for the routine growth o f device quality single crystals of Sr-10(VO4)(6)F-2 (SVAP) doped with 0-1.1 at% Nd3+. Using the Czochralski technique optically clear and d efect-free crystals may be grown without Nd3+ multisites. The multisit e-free Nd:SVAP crystals grown from an optimised composition of 74 mol% Sr-3(VO4)(2) plus 26 mol% SrF2 have enhanced potential for applicatio n in diode-pumped lasers at either 1.06 or 1.34 mu m.
