Object deformation-related phase measurements obtained using speckle c
orrelation interferometry are limited by low fringe contrast factor va
lues. In this paper, the statistical property of speckle phase - relat
ed to conditions of scattering from optically rough surfaces - is outl
ined to elucidate this factor. A series of computations using random n
umber generation with a Gaussian deviate is performed to verify this a
pproach and to obtain numerical estimates of the fringe contrast facto
r.
