A coding method for digital absolute position data registration has be
en discovered compressing the information represented in n tracks for
n sensors of currently known digital absolute position measurement sys
tems to only one track. Moreover this coding method allows to reduce t
he number of sensors independent on the resolution of the measurement
system to two at most. The expected advantages for a measurement syste
m based, on this so called sequential or cyclic-sequential coding are
easy manufacturing, a reduced number of components and smaller dimensi
ons.
