This paper describes experiences in teaching introductory economic geo
graphy in a large American university. Selection of a textbook, prepar
ation to teach a course, monitoring the business press for current ill
ustrations of salient points, supplemental readings and course evaluat
ion procedures are discussed. It is argued that an emphasis on 'real-w
orld' examples as opposed to theory helps to spark student interest in
the economic geography of our world.
