Abstract
This study examined the relationship between individual, group, and or ganizational antecedent variables and strategic and political interpre tations of key organizational issues. Results showed that (1) the thre e sources of influence were linked to strategic and political interpre tations differently, and (2) issue content combined with context and i nterpretive outcomes to define three distinct interpretive environment s. The configurational analyses that define these environments unmask the cross-level effects of several variables on managerial interpretat ion. We discuss implications for studying interpretation at multiple l evels and future research directions.
