Y. Iitoi et al., EFFECTS OF KANPYO POWDER ON DRUG-METABOLI ZING-ENZYMES INDUCED BY BENZO[A]PYRENE IN RATS, Shokuhin Eiseigaku Zasshi, 35(5), 1994, pp. 465-469
Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a normal diet for 7 Days, then swi
tched to an experimental diet for 48 hours. The experimental diets con
tained 0, 100, 200, 400 or 800 ppm benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), with or wit
hout 10% Kanpyo powder. After 48 hours, the livers and small intestina
l mucosa were analyzed for various drug-metabolizing enzyme activities
. Intestinal arylhydrocarbon hydroxylase was significantly induced by
800 ppm B[a]P, but this enzyme induction was significantly inhibited b
y Kanpyo powder. These data might suggest that Kanpyo reduces exposure
of the intestine to dietary carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocar
bons such as B[a]P.
