Teachers who want to include multicultural perspectives in their curri
culum can explore the funds of knowledge of the parents of their stude
nts by using oral history projects ill their classrooms. This article
describes a rationale and an approach for helping teachers use the lif
e histories of parents and members of the community as scaffolds to te
ach social studies and history concepts. The article illustrates the a
pproach with examples from a case study of an extended Puerto Rican fa
mily and abstracts of teacher reflections on the process.
