Single Sc-2(WO4)(3) crystals were grown from an eutectic mixture of 1:
3 molar ratio of Bi2O3-WO3 by slow cooling flux method from 1200 degre
es C rather than above 1600 degrees C, which is the melting point of s
toichiometric scandium tungstate. The crystalline quality of the singl
e crystals was found to be satisfactory from Laue photographs and from
a comparison of the lattice parameters and the Sc/W ratio of the sing
le crystals with powdered polycrystals.
