This paper is an attempt at building on the idea of a ''system of syst
ems methodologies'' to introduce a dynamic element in its use and ther
eby increase its effectiveness. The author, a practicing management co
nsultant, has perceived the advantages of classifying various systems
methodologies on the basis of problem contexts. Additional benefit, as
sesses the author, will be obtained by recognizing the dynamic nature
of these contexts. Some insights have been developed on this theme. Ar
eas needing further theoretical enhancement and action research are al
so identified.
