1600 imported frozen meat and 400 fat semples from various European an
d American countries and 200 chicken samples from Beni-Suef modern aba
ttoir were examined between 1987 and May 1990. Oestrogen residues were
determined qualitatively and quantitatively using two methods (thin-l
ayer chromatography [TLC], and high performance liquid chromatography
[HPLC]). In the present investigations oestrogen residues were found s
amples of imported frozen meat and fat from Germany, the USA and Irela
nd during 1987 but in 1988 the only positive result was from Ireland.
Otherwise the imported samples (meat and fat) had oestrogen levels tha
t did not exceed 0.05 ng/g tissue, but the chicken samples examined ha
d levels higher than this throughout the whole experimental period.
