Abstract
Formation and growth conditions of voids are considered for pentagonal whiskers and for icosahedral small particles. Formation of such voids is shown to be due to relaxation of elastic fields of disclinations w hich are inherent in pentagonal crystals. Experimental observations of voids in pentagonal whiskers of CdTe are reported.
