Abstract
We describe a compact visible electron beam pumped laser realized by a ssociation of a cold electron source made of microtip cathodes and of a CdTe/CdMnTe graded index separate confinement heterostructure (GRINS CH) with a low threshold. We shall outline the principle of the hetero structure, and give indications on the MBE growth and on the TEM struc tural characterization. Lasing action is demonstrated in the red part of the visible spectrum.
