Three different methods of isolation of volatiles released by heating
of the paperboard were compared. The volatiles produced by 30 - 60 min
of heating at 150-degrees-C were isolated by: 1) extraction with diet
hyl ether 2) distillation with trapping in cooled diethyl ether and 3)
adsorption on TENAX GC. The isolated volatiles were analyzed by gas c
hromatography coupled with the mass spectroscopy detection. The TENAX
adsorption seems to give the best results, better than the other metho
ds, by use of which not only volatiles were isolated and some part of
volatiles was lost also by subsequent reactions of those.
