Wa. Kaczmarek et al., ELECTROKINETIC AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF SUBMICRON BAFE12O19 FERRITEPOWDER DISPERSIONS, Materials chemistry and physics, 35(1), 1993, pp. 31-35
The morphology, electrokinetic and magnetic properties of submicron Ba
-ferrite powder, suspended freely in water solutions of simple sodium
salts, are studied. Ferrite particles in water solutions behave as col
loidal particles, with the surface potential proportional to pH, a poi
nt of zero charge being at pH 5. A method for determining the magnetic
switching field H(s) of powder assemblies is described. H(s) is found
to depend on pH when the particles are immersed in 0.5 M Na salt solu
tions, with the maximum observed value for NaNO3 at pH 7.8.
