Abstract
This article explores the educational needs of mentally ill older adul ts. Not a single article specifically addressing this population was f ound in a review of the literature. The adult education literature add resses the well elderly. The mental health literature, when it address es education, focuses on young chronically ill populations, and when t he treatment literature addresses the elderly, retraining is briefly m entioned. Therefore, a review of the existing literature describing th e educational needs of the well elderly, the educational needs of ment ally ill younger adults, and the treatment of.mentally ill older adult s is presented. Education and treatment implications are drawn from th e different knowledge bases.
