Abstract
This study examines the determinants of arbitral decisions toward modi fying employee discharge grievances. The data were obtained from publi shed cases in the Bureau of National Affairs. Discriminant analysis wa s used as a means for identifying significant arbitral considerations. The results indicate that grievant's prior work record, mitigating ci rcumstances and arbitrary action of management are the most significan t issues considered by arbitrators in modifying employers' decisions.
