The applicaton of carbon dioxide for grain storage in the foodstuffs a
nd medicinal plants processing industry has opened up two specific fie
lds of operation. In the first, carbon dioxide is used under pressure,
ranging from 10 to 30 bar, with appropriate periods of 30-240 minutes
for the reaction to take effect. And secondly, under atmospheric pres
sure in the grain silo with > 60% concentrations of carbon dioxide, wh
en 10-20 days arc required for the reaction to set in. In-depth analys
is and testing have proved the safety and innocuity of both procedures
. The combination of carbon dioxide with other gases, on the other han
d, is still in the trial phase.
