RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE WECHSLER ADULT INTELLIGENCE SCALE-REVISED AND THE WOODCOCK-JOHNSON TEST OF COGNITIVE ABILITY-REVISED AMONG ADULTS WITH LEARNING-DISABILITIES IN UNIVERSITY AND REHABILITATION SETTINGS
C. Hoy et al., RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE WECHSLER ADULT INTELLIGENCE SCALE-REVISED AND THE WOODCOCK-JOHNSON TEST OF COGNITIVE ABILITY-REVISED AMONG ADULTS WITH LEARNING-DISABILITIES IN UNIVERSITY AND REHABILITATION SETTINGS, Journal of psychoeducational assessment, 1993, pp. 54-63
We examined the concurrent validity of the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Co
gnitive Ability-Revised (WJTCA-R) by comparing it to the Wechsler Adul
t Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R). In addition, WJTCA-R and WAIS-R
scale scores were related to selected tests of achievement. Two popul
ations of adults with learning disabilities participated in this study
, one group from a university setting (N = 47) and one group from a re
habilitation setting (N = 46). Data from university subjects yielded c
orrelations between the WAIS-R and the WJTCA-R much like those reporte
d previously in the literature. However, the relationship between thes
e two measures was not as strong for the rehabilitation subjects. This
study highlights the heterogeneity of the population of adults with l
earning disabilities. This heterogeneity needs to be considered by pro
fessionals who are working in different settings, especially when they
are conducting assessments and planning interventions.
