COMPARISON OF THE WOODCOCK-JOHNSON PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL BATTERY-REVISED AND THE WECHSLER INTELLIGENCE SCALE FOR CHILDREN-REVISED WITH INCARCERATED ADOLESCENTS
M. Meinhardt et al., COMPARISON OF THE WOODCOCK-JOHNSON PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL BATTERY-REVISED AND THE WECHSLER INTELLIGENCE SCALE FOR CHILDREN-REVISED WITH INCARCERATED ADOLESCENTS, Journal of psychoeducational assessment, 1993, pp. 64-70
The concurrent validity of the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Bat
tery-Revised Tests of Cognitive Ability (WJ-R COG) was examined by com
paring the WJ-R COG to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Re
vised (WISC-R) for a sample of 52 incarcerated male adolescents. Score
s from the WJ-R COG were correlated with scores from the WISC-R IQ and
Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery-Revised Tests of Achievem
ent (WJ-R ACH). A t-test of related measures for differences between m
eans to investigate mean score discrepancies provides evidence of conc
urrent validity for the WJ-R COG and the WISC-R. Significant individua
l discrepancies in cognitive scores on the two measures were obtained.
Correlations between WISC-R IQ scores, WJ-R COG scores, and WJ-R Achi
evement Cluster scores indicate that WISC-R Full Scale IQ, WJ-R Broad
Cognitive Ability Scores, and Scholastic Ability scores predict achiev
ement equally well.
