The corrosion rates of titanium in 1-4 M H2SO4 at temperatures of 298,
313 and 333 K were measured. It was found that etching in 5% HF stron
gly decreases the time for the passive-active transition (self-activat
ion) of titanium in H2SO4 and it was therefore used as an initial pret
reatment for all samples. The steady state corrosion rates of titanium
in H2SO4 increased linearly with the cube of the molar concentration.
