Abstract
This paper looks at the notions of language and identity held by a gro up of deaf children being educated by means of a sign bilingual approa ch. Based on interviews with the deaf children themselves, it consider s their understanding of ideas of deafness and heaving. It also discus ses their understanding of the differences between English and sign la nguage and the implications of this.
