Thin ferroelectric films of Pb1-xCaxTiO3 (0 < x less than or equal to
0.4) solid solutions were produced on glass, glass-ceramic, and MgO su
bstrates by centrifuging solutions of metalorganic compounds, followed
by thermal decomposition of the precursors. The lattice parameters of
the solid solutions were measured as a function of composition. The x
= 0.15 film was found to undergo a tetragonal-to-cubic phase transiti
on at 370 degrees C and an isostructural transformation between two te
tragonal phases at 170 degrees C. The absorption spectra of the films
were measured in the visible and near-IR spectral regions. Increasing
Ca content reduces internal stress and has no effect on the temperatur
e of the isostructural phase transition.
