Td. Allen et al., FORMAL PEER MENTORING - FACTORS RELATED TO PROTEGES SATISFACTION AND WILLINGNESS TO MENTOR OTHERS, Group & organization management, 22(4), 1997, pp. 488-507
This study investigated several factors related to proteges' satisfact
ion with a formal peer mentoring program. These included the extent to
which mentoring behaviors met career-related needs and psychosocial n
eeds and the amount of time spent with the mentor. In addition, demogr
aphic variables and satisfaction with the present and previous mentori
ng experience were examined for their relationship to proteges' willin
gness to mentor others in the future. Results indicated that the degre
e of career and psychosocial functions served by a mentor were strongl
y related to proteges' satisfaction with the mentoring relationship. A
lso, willingness to mentor others in the future was related to protege
s' gender and to proteges' satisfaction with their current mentoring e
xperiences. Implications and directions for future research are addres
sed.
