Jw. Ko et al., ASSESSMENT OF MEYER AND ALLENS 3-COMPONENT MODEL OF ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT IN SOUTH-KOREA, Journal of applied psychology, 82(6), 1997, pp. 961-973
J. P. Meyer and N. J. Alien's (N. J. Allen Be J. P. Meyer, 1990; J. P.
Meyer & N. J. Allen, 1991) 3-component model of organizational commit
ment was investigated with samples from 2 different organizations in S
outh Korea. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires an
d analyzed using covariance structure analysis. The results were mixed
. Reliabilities of the Affective Commitment Scale (ACS) and the Normat
ive Commitment Scale (NCS) were acceptable, whereas the reliability of
the Continuance Commitment Scale (CCS) was low. The 3 scales had acce
ptable convergent validity, but the ACS and the NCS lacked discriminan
t validity. The construct validity of the ACS was supported, whereas t
he construct validities of the CCS and the NCS were questionable. Psyc
hometric and conceptual problems were discussed, and suggestions for f
uture research were advanced.
