Nutrition consultation has evolved over the post decodes from providin
g information to identifying nutrition problems, as well as assisting
clients modify behaviours. The process is multifaceted in nature, comp
lex and has attained a level of sophistication which requires that die
titians and nutritionists not only be aware of current clinical nutrit
ion practices but also acquire expertise in problem solving, intervent
ion and evaluation strategies. The purpose of this paper is to provide
a framework for nutrition consultation which ton be useful to dietiti
ans and nutritionists to improve their practice as well as to dietetic
students learning how to counsel effectively. Conditions for successf
ul application of the framework are also presented.
