The correspondence which is conserved in the Larguier des Bancels' col
lection at the University of Lausanne shows a little known side of Bin
et's character: we see him running single-handedly the Annee Psycholog
ique, negotiating contracts with successive publishers, recruting coll
aborators - some of them were to become close friends - bringing all h
is influence to bear on the editorial orientations of his review even
if that meant the occasional compromise with the publisher. The loyal
admiration which he inspired in a small circle of collaborators such a
s Simon and Larguier des Bancels lead them, after his death, to comple
te and carry out the volume he had been preparing, and to refuse to jo
in the new team formed under Pieron, after 1912.
