Abstract
Knowledge of the transfer function of a microscopical system is of imp ortance for image processing. In this paper three dimensional (3-D) im ages of spheres from an reflection scanning acoustic microscope are us ed for the determination of the defocused optical transfer function. T he presented technique of microscope characterisation can also be appl ied to confocal optical scanning microscopes.
