Abstract
This paper examines the possibility of using several mesh refinement t echniques with the finite element method in electron optics. The metho ds of extrapolation, unstructured and structured mesh refinement are e xamined and compared with one another for some simple test potential d istributions. The study shows that structured mesh refinement in combi nation with Richardson's extrapolation method gives the most accurate results.
