Large-block CuxAg1-xS2 (x = 0-1.0) crystals were grown by directional
solidification in a two-zone furnace, and their microhardness, transmi
ssion spectra at the fundamental edge, and IR transmission spectra in
the range from 150 to 400 cm(-1) were measured. The composition depend
ence of microhardness exhibits a maximum, and the composition dependen
ce of the band gap shows nonlinear behavior. The frequencies of optica
l phonons were determined as a function of composition.
