The multicrystalline behaviour and the crystallinity of poly(ethylene-
co-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) were investigated by infrared spec
troscopy. The metastable monoclinic packing structure of the polyethyl
ene segments of the copolymers usually co-exists with the stable ortho
rhombic form in the isotropic samples. The reason for the occurrence o
f this multicrystalline structure is discussed. The relative content o
f the monoclinic form in the crystalline regions changed greatly with
the co-unit contents and the crystallization conditions. The crystalli
nity of the samples was also estimated by spectroscopic methods.
