Relationships between XeF bond lengths and the force constants of XeF
stretching vibrations of xenon fluorides (XeF2, XeF4, XeF6, XeOF4), th
eir ions (XeF+, Xe2F3+, XeF5+) and their molecular adducts are investi
gated. The parameters for the modified Badger relation and the Herschb
ach-Laurie relation are determined for 38 experimental data. The Badge
r values of a(ij) = 2.33 and d(ij) = 1.00, and the Herschbach-Laurie v
alues of a(ij) = 2.25 and b(ij) = 0.68 reproduce the frequencies with
an average deviation of 3.8% for the Badger rule and 3.4% for the Hers
chbach-Laurie correlation. Sample XeO bonds (XeOF4, XeO3, XeO4) and Xe
N bonds (FXeN(SO2F)(2), FXeN(SO2F)(2) . Sb3F16) satisfactorily pack al
ong the curves determined for the Xe-F bonds, suggesting common parame
ters.
