Guidelines for the preparation of school psychologists are described.
The guidelines have been approved by the International School Psycholo
gy Association. The guidelines emphasize six goals commonly found in t
he preparation of school psychologists internationally: acquisition of
core psychological knowledge, development of professional decision-ma
king abilities, acquisition of research and statistical skills, enhanc
ement of interpersonal skills, knowledge of ethics and establishment o
f professional values. The basis for these goals is described. An exam
ple of a professional preparation program based on these goals is prov
ided.
