The oxidation state of lanthanides in Eu1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7-delta and the s
uperconducting properties and structure of these solid solutions are s
tudied. Substitution of praseodymium for europium leads to the formati
on of orthorhombic solid solutions over the entire: composition range.
The introduction of praseodymium into EuBa2Cu3O7-delta causes a sharp
decrease in T-c, presumably because the oxidation state of Pr in the
solid solutionis higher than 3+, as evidenced by Pr K-alpha 1 chemical
-shift measurements.
