Abstract
For the experimental analysis of the local loads at spot welded joints the knowledge about the strain distribution around the spot weld is r equired. Speckle measuring techniques (ESPI) offer the possibilities o f complete analysis of the strain field by full field, three dimension al measurement from one side of the spot weld. Therefore, the deformat ions of a spot weld are measured with a 3D-ESPI system in the three co ordinate directions when the measuring object is loaded. From there, t he strains are calculated according to the mechanics equations. Measur ing results obtained with strain gauges and ESPI techniques are compar ed with finite element simulations.
