Abstract
This paper examines the causal association between share ownership and attitudes of New Zealand managers, using Long's (1978a) theoretical f ramework. The results of the longitudinal study showed that: (I) pre-e xisting attitudes had no causal effect on the decision to purchase sha res; and (2) employee share ownership did not result in the expected i mprovement in attitudes. Reasons as to why the scheme had little effec t are discussed.
