Kj. Klauer, DOES INDUCTIVE REASONING FOSTER THE ACQUI SITION OF THE MEMORY STRATEGY OF CLUSTERING, Zeitschrift fur Padagogische Psychologie, 12(1), 1998, pp. 73-84
Two second classes of a primary school which were comparable to each o
ther with respect to relevant variables, participated in a quasi-exper
iment. Whereas one class received a training to reason inductively, th
e other was given an attentional training. After that, both classes we
re instructed to use the memory strategy of categorizing or clustering
. The reasoning training led to higher performance with Cattell's CFT
as well as with the three memory variables, both immediately after ins
truction and ten weeks later. Actually, the effect of the reasoning tr
aining on the memory variables had even increased ten weeks later.
