Vv. Ivanov et Vr. Khrustov, PREPARATION OF CERAMICS FROM MAGNETIC-PULSE-COMPACTED NANOMETER-SIZEDAL2O3 POWDER, Inorganic materials, 34(4), 1998, pp. 401-404
The sintering behavior of powder compacts prepared by magnetic-pulse c
ompression of 20-nm gamma-Al2O3 powder was studied with the aim to opt
imize sintering conditions. Dense alpha-Al2O3 ceramics are obtained wi
th an average grain size of 100-150 nm and relative density of 97%. De
nse nanocrystalline Al2O3 ceramics can only be obtained from well-dens
ified green compacts (70-80% of theoretical density). Rapid, uncontrol
led-rate heating is unsuitable for sintering nanocrystalline powders.
