Jd. Nichols et We. Utesch, AN ALTERNATIVE LEARNING-PROGRAM - EFFECTS ON STUDENT MOTIVATION AND SELF-ESTEEM, The Journal of educational research, 91(5), 1998, pp. 272-278
An examination of an alternative learning program and its effect on st
udent: motivation and self-esteem in a large urban school district in
the Midwest was conducted, The dependent variables of interest were st
udent motivation, goal orientation, efficacy and self-esteem, The prim
ary goal of the project was to determine if this specific alternative
learning program could have a positive effect on its participants, Pn
addition, this project was intended to provide feedback to the local s
chool system regarding the effectiveness of their program, Upon their
entry and exit from the program, students completed a questionnaire th
at focused on the dependent variables described above. An analysis of
the pre- and postquestionnaire data is presented. This study wins base
d upon existing research in motivational theory and additional program
s in other education circles that provide alternative forms of educati
onal service for at-risk students.
