Abstract
Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) is used as a starting material of epoxy resins and a stabilizer in PVC resin. These resins are used for coating the internal walls of food cans. BADGE in the oil phase of ca nned fish was analyzed with a hand-made LC/LC fluorescence detection s ystem: a combination of ordinary HPLC columns, HPLC equipment, a ten-p ort valve and a sample loop. The BADGE fraction eluted from a CN colum n was detected with a fluorescence detector, followed by transfer thro ugh the sample loop to a silica gel column. BADGE peaks were confirmed by using a fluorescence detector. The detection limit of BADGE in the oil phase of canned fish was 0.02 mg/kg. BADGE was detected from 11 o ut of 16 samples. Coating materials of the cans were also analyzed by FT-IR and by the use of the Beilstein test.
