Abstract
The results on dynamic fracture of thin alumina ceramic samples upon h eating with focused IR laser radiation are presented. The crack growth rate and the velocities of escaping fragments are determined. It is s hown that the efficiency of conversion of the thermoelastic energy to the kinetic energy of fragments depends on the size of fragments and f racture stress.
