Abstract
Potassium vapor condensed in CO2 has been studied by transmission infr ared spectroscopy and by total pressure thermal desorption spectroscop y. The results are compared with surface spectroscopic data for CO2 ad sorbed on alkali metal overlayers. Both systems show the formation of bulk coordinated oxalate species at cryogenic temperatures and the con version to carbonate intermediates upon annealing.
